From the Director: Welcome Back!

Dear Members & Friends,

I hope that you have all enjoyed a happy and healthy summer! As you can see we have a series of exciting events in store for you for the new season. We are also happy to welcome the new Dean of the College of Fine Arts & Communication, Susan Picinich. I am previliged to working with Dean Picinich, whose inspired vision and dedication to the arts will be wonderful for the future of the Center.

Marking the 40th Anniversary of the Center, we have made a focus shift of our programs from introducing artists of Asian background and how they respond and adopt the new ideas and new expressions in the West while still keeping their traditions, to recognizing non-Asian artists and how they connect with their experiences of Asia in their creations. In this new perspective, we have planned an "Asian Connection Series" starting with the exhibition of "Art in a Global Age," followed by Scott Prairie and his music group, A Moving Sound, Tim Hoffman and Asian Classical Crossover, Elaine Hamilton's exhibition of Unbound Energy and Color, and culminates in an extraordinary exhibition featuring Iona Rozeal Brown in the Spring. I am sure you would be fascinated by their inspired syntheses of East and West.

Please join us in the celebration of each memorable cultural connection that brings the world closer together.

Suewhei Shieh

Director

Grants Received

The Asian Arts & Culture Center is a proud recipient of an operating grant from the Baltimore County Commission on Arts & Sciences which again endorsed a generous award of $18,000 in support of AA&CC's operation in FY 2012. We thank the Maryland State Arts Council for its continuing support with another significantly increased grant award of $16,586 for FY 2012. We are extremely grateful for these increased financial support especially in these times of economic downturn.

We are also in debt to the Macht Philanthropic Fund, t
he Ro and Marius P. Johnson Legacy Charitable Trust, and McCormick & Co., Inc. who are among the most reliable community supports year after year.

Welcome New Staff

We are thrilled to welcome new additions to our administrative and student assistant team. Ms. Jammie Chang has filled the position of Assistant to the Director. Jammie is an artist and designer who recently obtained a Master's degree in Arts Management from Goerge Mason University. She is excited to be part of this unique organization and having an opportunity to work with Asian arts and artists. Peter Eide and Claudia Rosati are new Graduate Assistants to help with social networking and membership drive. We are confident that the skills and experience this new team brings to our work would help the organization develop and grow.

THANK YOU
