2011 Biannual International Forum on Asia-Middle East Studies
Transformation of the Islamic Countries in the Middle East and Its Global Impacts September 14-16, 2011, Shanghai, China The current political turmoil in the Middle East and its complexities present a set of new challenges, impacts, and opportunities to that region as well as the rest of the world. In light of these new circumstances, the Shanghai International Studies University (SISU) and the U.S. Asia Cultural Academy (UACA) are co-hosting the Third International Forum on Asia and the Middle East, with the theme of “Transformation of the Islamic Countries in the Middle East and Its Global Impacts,” to be held on September 14-16, 2011, at SISU in Shanghai, China. This is an interdisciplinary conference. Participants will include academics, diplomats, military officers and other interested individuals. SISU will provide complementary meals during the conference period. Conference participants are responsible for their own travel and lodging expenses, as well as the conference registration fee and other costs associated with this travel. Scholars and experts who wish to present their papers at this international conference are invited to submit their proposals on one of the following topics: - Political and economic transition of the Islamic countries in the Middle East; - Social and cultural transformation - The “Major Power” factor in the current political transition This list is meant to outline the topics deemed most relevant and important for this conference. Other topics are welcomed if the authors can establish their relevance and importance to the subject of the conference. Both broad theoretical studies and specific case studies are welcome. Proposals should include an abstract (limited to 200 words), a paper (limited to 5,000 words), 3-5 keywords, and a personal biography.
